The Lodge an oasis in the Kalahari of Botswana, a luxury lodge close to the famous Okavango Delta.  Experience the Kalahari with Bushman at hand, to share their knowledge, while you can relax in total luxury at this unique destination.  Combining your visit of the Kalahari with the well-known area of the Okavango Delta to the north and the famous Victoria Falls would ensure that your safari to Africa would remain a treasured memory.

At the lodge you can experience the vastness of the Kalahari while enjoying some of the most prolific bird life or do some star gazing at night.

When outsiders think of the Kalahari, the image they generally have is the red sands of the Kgalagadi Tran frontier Park.  But locals know it as a vast flatland of spectacular thunder-storms, old fashioned villages, and friendly folk and when the rain comes, blizzards of butterflies.  What makes the lodge unique is the rare opportunity to meet and explore this remarkable environment with bushman Guides of the San peoples, one of the oldest cultures in Africa.

Experience a tour with real Bushmen.  Exploring the bush on foot, while your guide will teach you of the hunting and survival skills, the culture and crafts of the San people, who over the centuries have adapted their lives to survive in the most inhospitable environment of them all.  Comfort set in vibrant and rustic coloured interiors, the lodge accommodates up to sixteen people on a sharing basis.  The lodge is private and restful.

Attention has been given to every detail ensuring you a completely different experience, in and arid Kalahari

Bush land stretching for miles.  Each unit stands separately, on stilts connected with the main lodge by wooden walkways.

A curio shop and small library forms part of the complex.  The lodge has an ethnic African theme and was build to fit into the surrounding bush without altering, damaging or detracting from its ambiance and colour.

A swimming pool situated close to the main complex, enhances the enjoyment of guests.  The boma features prominently during the African nights when guests enjoy their dinner while gazing across a clear night sky.

The Kalahari has no seasons.  Instead there are three distinct phases: the rains, which may commence anytime from November to January, and last through to March, April, making the Kalahari a birder’s paradise

A cold dry spell follows from June to August.  And the hot dry spells lasts from September until the rains start.

Central Kalahari Game Reserve:

The Central Kalahari Game Reserve (52 000m²) is the second largest game reserve in the world.  It is home to large animal populations.  The department of wildlife and national parks does not wish to allow the development of lodges within the Central Kalahari Game Reserve but wishes to keep it as a true wilderness area.

Landscape:

In the southern Kalahari area the sand lies in distinct linear dunes.  These dunes are covered in grass, shrubs and trees.  In contrast with true sand deserts, the sand in the Kalahari is stabilized by vegetation.

Rainfall:

Although the Kalahari is generally seen as a desert, it is in actual fact e semi-arid savannah, with average rainfall at the lodge of 300 mm per annum.

Rainfall is one of the main ecological driving forces in this area.  It determines the quantity of plant growth produced each year and the amount of food for game.  The quantity and distribution of rainfall through the wet periods is also important.  If for example it rains early in the season certain grass and tree species are favoured.  Should it rain at a later stage totally different species are favoured and this phenomena will give the eco-tourist a totally different experience of the Kalahari every season.

Communication:

VSAT Communication system which is Internet Satellite dish 165/285

Vehicles:

3 x Open Game Vehicles – Land cruiser

1 x Land Cruiser 4.5 Diesel

1 x Tractor

Implements needed for the upkeep of 120 km road network.

Private airstrip:

A private airstrip registered with the Civil Aviation Authorities of Botswana.  1.1 km long and 18 m wide in-between the markers.

Power:

All electrical power to the main building and chalets are provided by a 65 kw generator.  The generator loads 144 x 12V batteries.

Water supply:

Fresh water to supply the Lodge comes out of a borehole and piping along 16 km 50 mm PVC pipeline.   The borehole is equipped with Mono equipment.

Climate:

The best time to visit Botswana is from April to October, when the days are sunny and warm; around 25ºC.  Evening temperatures drop sharply to as low as 5 ºC.  During the summer months, November to March, temperatures can rise to over 40 ºC and usually drops to 25 ºC at night.

Plant growth:

The waving landscapes consist of vast sand dunes.  Between the dunes one encounters low lying areas with small pans.  The bigger trees are found on top of the sand and around the pans.  The most important large trees in this area are Acasia luederitzii, Terminalia prunioides and Boscia albitrunca.

Grass cover:

The grass cover in the Kalahari is abundant and important after rain
